About the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra (SCSO)

The SCSO, a California educational 501 c (3) non-profit organization established in 1996, is an auditioned, volunteer chorus with a professional orchestra committed to the performance, education, and appreciation of a wide range of choral orchestral music for the Greater Sacramento Region.

The SCSO is unique nationally in that it is the only Community Chorus among the 12,000 Community Choruses in the U.S. to have a collective bargaining agreement with its own professional symphony orchestra.

The large SCSO Team of 170+ dedicated singers and 55 professional orchestra players come from 7 different counties. During the past 17 years, SCSO Members have volunteered more than 600,000 hours to enhance the cultural life of our community.

Our Mission:

  • To continue the tradition of performing important choral and choral orchestral works for the community.
  • To develop an appreciation of choral and choral orchestral music in the community
  • To encourage choral music education and creativity through workshops, clinics and mentoring
  • To achieve professional standards of performance
  • To develop excellence in musicianship in its membership
  • To secure a lasting foundation as a non-profit classical music organization
  • To build community through the arts
  • To achieve financial stability
